Ingredients

  • 1 cup Vegetable broth
  • 1/2 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp Dairy-free butter substitute
  • 1 cup Cooked beef, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 Egg replacer, prepared according to package
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs (dairy/nut-free)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Mustard, for serving

Instructions

  1. 1In a saucepan, melt the dairy-free butter substitute over medium heat. Add the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  2. 2Gradually whisk in the vegetable broth until smooth. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  3. 3Stir in the chopped beef, onion, parsley, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. 4Form the mixture into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter).
  5. 5Dip each ball in the prepared egg replacer, then roll in breadcrumbs, ensuring they are fully coated.
  6. 6Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  7. 7Fry the bitterballen in batches until golden brown and heated through, about 2-3 minutes.
  8. 8Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with mustard.
