Dairy-Free Ambasha Bread (Ethiopian Festive Bread)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 1/2 cups Water
  • 1/4 cup Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Yeast
  • 1/4 cup Olive Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Cardamom Powder
  • 2 tablespoons Vegan Egg Wash (aquafaba or plant milk)(replaces Egg Wash)
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, olive oil, cardamom, and water. Mix well to form a dough.
  2. 2Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. 3Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. 4Punch down the dough and divide it into desired shapes (round, braided, etc.).
  5. 5Place the shaped dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. 6Brush with vegan egg wash (aquafaba or plant milk) and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if using.
  7. 7Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. 8Let cool slightly before serving.
