Ingredients

  • 1 cup Queso Costeño or feta cheese, crumbled
  • 0.5 cup Tapioca starch
  • 0.5 cup Cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Milk
  • 2 cups Oil

Instructions

  1. 1In a bowl, combine the crumbled cheese, tapioca starch, cornstarch, baking powder, and sugar.
  2. 2In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and milk together.
  3. 3Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a smooth dough forms.
  4. 4Heat oil in a large pot or deep fryer over medium heat.
  5. 5Shape the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
  6. 6Fry the buñuelos until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Ensure they float to the top and are evenly browned.
  7. 7Remove the buñuelos and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm.
