  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1Drain and rinse the 2 cans of black beans. In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork until mostly broken down but still slightly chunky.
  2. 2Add the 1 cup of bread crumbs, the 0.5 onion (finely diced), the 0.5 bell pepper (finely diced), the 1 egg, the 2 tsp chili powder, the 1 tsp cumin, the 1 tsp garlic powder, the 0.5 tsp salt, and the 0.25 tsp black pepper to the bowl with the mashed black beans.
  3. 3Mix all the ingredients in the bowl thoroughly with your hands or a sturdy spoon until everything is well combined and holds together.
  4. 4Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 3/4-inch thick.
  5. 5Heat a 12-inch skillet over medium heat (around 350°F or 175°C).
  6. 6Carefully place the 4 patties into the hot skillet. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes on the first side, until golden brown and a crust forms.
  7. 7Flip the patties and cook for another 5 to 7 minutes on the second side, until they are browned and heated through. The patties should feel firm to the touch.
  8. 8Serve the cooked black bean burgers on the 4 burger buns.
