Ingredients

  • 1 cup Millet flour
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Peanut oil

Instructions

  1. 1In a large heavy-bottomed pot, whisk together the 1 cup of Millet flour and the 4 cups of Water until there are no lumps. Make sure the mixture is completely smooth.
  2. 2Place the pot over medium-high heat (350°F / 175°C). Stir the mixture constantly with a whisk for 2-3 minutes, until it begins to bubble and thicken slightly. This constant stirring is important to prevent the millet flour from sticking to the bottom and forming lumps.
  3. 3Reduce the heat to low (200°F / 95°C). Continue to cook the porridge, stirring frequently, for 15-20 minutes. The porridge is ready when it has thickened to a consistency where it coats the back of a spoon and holds its shape for a moment.
  4. 4Remove the pot from the heat. Stir in the 1 tsp of Salt and the 1 tbsp of Peanut oil until they are fully incorporated into the porridge.
  5. 5Serve the Bassie Salted Millet Porridge warm.
